    HISTORIC RALLY VICTORY FOR GPM

Saturday 26th September saw Graeme Powell, Director at PR & Marketing specialists, GPM, contest round 8 of the BTRDA Rally Series, the Trackrod Forest Stages Rally 2015.

Consisting of 45 miles of very fast and loose forest gravel stages set within the North Yorkshire Moors National Park, Graeme had entered his trusty 2.0 litre Ford Escort RS2000 MkII rally car to run in the highly competitive H2 Historic rally car class, with the car being freshly rebuilt to run in the class for the very first time.

In near perfect driving conditions, the rally attracted over 180 rally crews to battle it out over the prime condition gravel tracks north of the picturesque market town of Pickering. After competing over the first 4 stages of the rally, the GPM Rally Team was placed second in class, an astonishing position for the crew and car, considering it was their first time out in the H2 category, and that they were up against some very experienced rally teams. By the end of the last rally stage, Graeme had fought his way up to first in class, winning by a margin of just over 6 seconds from the second placed car.

“To be honest, I didn’t know where we’d end up in this new class, the playing field is more even in this category, with the cars more closely matched in handling and performance, and it was the first time we’d competed in it,” said Graeme. “This event was run at a very fast pace and was tough, we’d seen quite a few cars crash out or broken down in the stages. To not only finish the rally, but also achieve first in class was a result I’m very proud. It’s a fitting reward for all the hours of work that go into the preparation of the car, and for those who help service it on events, a real reflection of their dedication and commitment.”

Further information about the GPM Rally Team, news and updates can be viewed on the company’s website.

WHY PR MATERIAL IS THE FOUNDATION OF A SUCCESSFUL MARKETING STRATEGY

In today’s media-saturated culture, Public Relations (PR) plays a crucial role in any successful businesses marketing strategy.

PR is the science of promoting a company across a variety of media, where image and customer opinion mean everything, especially in the influential print and online media. The company who wins the media race, will win the ultimate goal – the confidence of the customer.

PR professionals work by facilitating relationships with relevant industry media to position companies in their market sector and at the forefront of customers’ minds.

At GPM, PR is used as part of a structured marketing plan that employs many years experience and targeted communications, to achieve desired objectives, and in some cases, gain unpaid for publicity from newspaper, magazine or website articles.

A basic definition of PR is to ‘Shape and maintain the image of a company and their products in the eyes of their current and potential customers’. These people are anyone who has or will form an opinion or have contact with the company or its products. Successful PR requires a deep understanding of the client’s business. PR professionals must know how to effectively address trade & end-user needs, through highlighting the unique selling points, benefits and applications of any product. To condense this would be to describe PR as ‘Using the news or trade press to carry positive messaging about a company or its products,’ and over time, cultivate a good working relationship with press representatives and therefore their readership, i.e. customers.

All successful releases are written as a compelling news story. The goal is to fulfill an editor’s requirement for news, while enhancing the client’s image in the eye of the public/trade/end-user.

GPM spends a lot of time cultivating relationships with editors and other members of the mass media. A magazine or website editor is much more likely to read a press release that’s fresh, timely and accompanied with good quality images, from a recognisable source – than just a few lines emailed from an unknown person or business.

Editors are bombarded with hundreds of stories every week, so getting to the top of the pile with a chance of getting printed in a magazine or website takes the skill and experience of a professional PR specialist.

GPM identifies, writes and releases copy targeted to address an editor’s field of expertise. Press releases should read like stories, not just bullet points extolling a product’s virtues – there must be something newsworthy about the release, or it will be ignored.

Editors don’t need press releases from their PR contacts to maintain a magazine or website – but it can make the task of sustaining content much simpler. A well-written press release with a news element can translate directly into a story – especially when the release comes from a trusted source.

Once written, quality press releases can be used to fulfill other content too, with very little adjustment – extending their shelf-life and providing economies of scale that greatly raises the initial ROI. Other areas where the PR content could be used includes a company’s website, targeted eNews campaigns and brochure content.

This is why well-written press release material is the foundation of a successful marketing strategy for any company – no matter what their product or area of business.

To find out more about maximising your brand and ROI with PR content – contact GPM today. We’ll be happy to discuss any promotional PR or Marketing requirement you may have.

HOW MARKETING WORKS – PART 1

In the first of a two-part newsletter, we look at the basics of how marketing works.

Put simply, ‘marketing’ is the selling of a product or service to a ‘target audience’, and the associated measures put in place to ensure that audience is made aware of it.

To sell a product or service to a wider audience we use ‘promotion’ and ‘publicity’, where we tell the target audience about the offering. To differentiate one company’s product or service from another, we need to create a solid and identifiable ‘brand’.  This ‘brand identity’ is built using a variety of marketing tools. These tools are items such as advertising, supporting literature and websites, and should be designed to reflect a brand’s identity, and include any ‘Unique Selling Points’ (USPs) – that is, the key features of a product or service that differentiate it from its competitors.

So, marketing is made up from many individual tools, that to be effective, must be carefully designed to provide optimum results. The skill with balancing the individual elements of a marketing strategy is twofold. The first is to create effective messaging about the product or service via high-quality copywriting. Copywriting, (or ‘Content’ as it can also be referred to), is the essential building block that feeds all the component items in your marketing output – so therefore needs to be carefully and consistently crafted.

The second thing to consider, is the allocation of available spend across the right mix of marketing activities, to establish a well balanced strategy aimed at fulfilling your company’s sales & marketing goals. No matter what the size of business or budget, all marketing efforts need to have a direct bearing on company sales; so making each pound of your marketing budget work the hardest it can is vital.

Effective marketing doesn’t have to be complicated or scary. Take the advice of an experienced PR & Marketing company to make sure you maximise the results from every penny you spend – and ensure the most effective return on your investment.

Next time we will look at how these individual marketing tools must be carefully designed and balanced to provide optimum results, and how it can be applied to your business strategy.

In the meantime, if you require any assistance, contact us now to find out how GPM can make the most of your marketing budget and a real difference to your business.
